School-Based OT Services Description:
Occupational Therapists facilitate access for students in their curriculum at school. Occupational Therapists function as a related service provider in the school systems. Their role is to collaborate with personnel within the school to provide direct, indirect and consultative services for students whose fine motor, sensory, and visual perceptive limitations limit their ability to fully participate in school activities. Occupational Therapists often provide assistance with the following school related activities:

  • Fine motor, visual motor and visual perceptual skills which cause limitations in students’ ability to write, perform desktop activities, and attend school activities.
  • Ability to function independently in the cafeteria, classroom, physical education class, recess and the bathroom.
  • Behavior and sensory strategies that allow teachers to successfully instruct the students and improve their learning.
